The Actor's Instrument:
Designed to train an actor in his body and breath and voice.
In addition our imaginations, the chief tools an actor has at his
disposal are his body and voice. Time to give them the time and
attention they require.
This class will help to combat anxiety, increase balance and
flexibility, connect the actor to his breath, and free the natural
voice so an actor can have the freedom to work in any medium.
Actors must come prepared to move! No restrictive clothing. Dressed in
jogging pants, tights, shorts, lulu lemons, etc. Sneakers, dance
slippers, or bare feet. Bring a yoga mat, towel, or blanket for floor
work.
Week one: Will begin with a brief overview of the ideas to be explored, as well as an introduction to the anatomy relevant.

Body – Weight and Suspension
Breath – Capacity
Voice – Articulation and Enunciation
Week three:
Body – Energy and Balance
Breath - Control
Voice – Speech
Week four:
Warm ups – utilizing exercise already introduced, and following the
three tiered approach, (body, breath, and voice), an actor will learn
how to prepare themselves to work.
Finding physical and vocal freedom in a piece of text. By
applying principals explored in the previous three weeks, the actor
will have a chance to explore the full potential of the range of their
instrument.

Lawrence Haegert is an actor who has worked extensively in
many various genres of performance from film and TV to stages across
the country including the Stratford Shakespeare Festival of Canada -
where he has also taught. On stage he has acted in contemporary plays,
classical, farce, clown, and musical theatre.
Lawrence has studied dance at The National Ballet School of
Canada, has BFA from Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, is a Graduate of The
Birmingham Conservatory of Classical theatre training, and has studied
with teachers in London at LAMDA, RADA and The Guildhall.
